Faculty:

Suruj Seunarine - Lecturer in Physics, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences,

Students:

Carleigh Grace – Undergraduate, third year student project on low level cascade reconstructions.

Background:

The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados, is part of the UWI system with two other campuses, in Trinidad and Jamaica. The physics department at Cave Hill consists of four physics faculty and two electronics/physics faculty. The physics degree takes three years to complete. Typically third year undergraduate classes have eight students on average with only a couple of students intending to pursue physics at the graduate level. Most of my students majoring on physics will double major with computer science, mathematics or chemistry. Two undergraduates, Carleigh Grace who is in third year and working on cascade recos, and another in second year, have interest in pursuing astrophysics at the post graduate level. I anticipate that by next year there will be at least one graduate student pursuing IceCube related research at Cave Hill.
